«The ephemeral traces of nature leave indelible but often discrete traces. I thus decided to use columns to define the space of my playground. It creates a changing perspective which varies according to our viewing angle, as does our view of art in general. It is a hyperactive volcano, surrounded by an agitated sea. The volcano, which nourishes the fire of artistic passion and the sea, with its warm artistic currents. I try to tame the sea by enclosing its breaking waves in iron cages. The volcano, which fossilizes the day-to-day acts as in Pompeii. Entering the exhibition hall by passing through the centre of the volcano is also taking the first step which may expose us to the ardent fire of an artist's creative passion.»

The sculptor Jacques Baril lives and works in Gallichan, a town in the Abitibi countryside, a source of inspiration for his promenades… imaginary and real. Whether working in snow sculpture, visual arts or crafts, Jacques Baril fashions and assembles his material in ways that link them with his own personal experience in the region. Recently, Jacques Baril presented "Like a fish coming up for a breath of air!", a literary and visual arts project in which about twenty writers and artists from Abitibi-Témiscamingue took part. This summer, he is participating in the 24th edition of the Symposium d’art contemporain de Baie-St-Paul.
